Kaitiaki of Journeys

from $110.00

Kaitiaki of Journeys began with an unexpected source, the weathered tread of old tyres, marked by the journeys they had carried.

Through digital transformation, these familiar traces of travel become something otherworldly. Layered forms unfold into a winged, almost insect-like guardian, with an intricate structure at its centre that seems to suggest movement, passage and a destination beyond the visible.

The original tyre tread becomes a metaphor for the journeys we make. Every journey leaves a mark, some visible, some carried quietly within us. Roads connect places, but journeys can also take us through memory, change, loss, discovery and transformation.

What if there is something more than we first noticed?

As with the other works in the Kaitiaki Series, Kaitiaki of Journeys is intentionally open to personal interpretation. The form may appear as wings, an insect, a mask, an armoured creature, a vessel or something from another world. The more you look, the more the familiar source begins to disappear, leaving behind something that exists somewhere between nature, imagination and spirit.
